Respected Virginia Beach criminal defense firm seeking to hire an associate attorney with position opening Jan 1, 2023.

The firm's current main practice areas are state, federal and military criminal defense, with a small personal-injury caseload. The firm's founder, Greg D. McCormack, is shifting to "of-counsel" status at the end of 2022, and his robust military criminal defense practice will continue to draw significant consultations. Greg served in the US Army JAG Corps from 1979 to 1982, and has since built a widely-known and respected practice serving military members around the world who are facing court-martial, administrative separation, and other legal issues within the military. The firm is located in the Lynnhaven area of Virginia Beach, but handles civilian cases throughout Greater Hampton Roads, and military cases worldwide. Two full-time paralegals and an office manager are on staff.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years experience in the JAG Corps, significant courtroom/litigation experience, and must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with significant case-load. Associate responsibilities will include intake of new civilian and military consultations, full handling of civilian misdemeanor and felony cases from intake through disposition, conducting jail visits with incarcerated clients, and trial preparation for pending contested matters in circuit and federal court. If the selected candidate is prior member of the JAG Corps, the responsibilities would extend to representation of military members in courts-martial, administrative separation boards, boards of inquiry, and security clearance matters. This representation may include some paid travel outside of the local area, if the candidate is willing to travel for cases.

The successful candidate will be provided a large fully-furnished office and support staff, with no responsibilities for any overhead. Residency in South Hampton Roads is required, as the position is in-person and not remote. Virginia Bar admission or immediate reciprocal waiver eligibility is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience, with possibility of performance-based bonuses, and benefits are included.
