California state government job. JAGs encouraged to apply. John Newton informs us:

"The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has an opening for a senior litigator. The MQ's require a minimum of 10 years of licensure. This is a great fit for someone who has been doing litigation for a long time but may want to downshift into admin hearings, which actually get a resolution.

The position can be located either in Sacramento (Northern Cali) or Cerritos (Southern Cali)

Alcohol regulation is a fascinating little area of the law. The attorney will be concerned primarily with litigating our more complex cases, which can involve multi-day admin hearings, major felonies committed on alcohol-licensed premises, or license issuances to large projects, such as stadiums, amphitheaters, theme parks, and such.

Don't pay too much attention to the references to subject matter expertise in the job posting. Although this is our senior litigator, said expertise only exists with a couple of the supervisors on staff. We expect to have to train someone fresh who has never been involved with alcohol regulation.

California provides a great pension (2% @ 62) and generous leave allowances. The state is also extremely supportive of reservists, allowing for 30 days of PAID military leave per year for you to double-dip. I have been an IMA the whole time I have worked here and always appreciated the support."
